Green Bay Packers defensive end, Micah Parsons, made his return to Dallas last Sunday,Sep. 28, 2025. Leading up to the game, there was a lot of talk from both Parsons and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. “No tribute, no problem,” said Parsons in an interview. Parsons isn’t phased, “No, there’s a lot of things I consider disrespectful throughout this process, but I wouldn’t say the tribute is one of them.” Jerry Jones has a different story to tell on the tribute: “Emmitt Smith was a different story, but that’s not to diminish Micah. But I think Micah’s got enough ‘welcome’ out there.” With Parsons unaffected by the lack of tribute from Dallas and Jones thinking he doesn’t deserve the “welcome,” Parsons hopes to get his tribute in a win. Sacking Dak Prescott, Cowboys quarterback, would be a bittersweet win for Parsons. “It’s going to be painful [sacking Dak Prescott],” Parsons said, “he was like a mentor for me.”
In the head-to-head matchup as the last game on Sunday night football, the game was back and forth all night. There were over six lead changes and a tie to lead it to overtime, the game ultimately ended in a draw, thanks to Parsons. With five minutes left on the clock in overtime, Dallas had possession. Prescott made a read, trying to escape the Packers’ defense and run it into the endzone that Dallas was merely 10 yards away from. Instead, Parsons broke free from his defender and chased down Prescott, ultimately sacking him and resulting in no touchdown for the Cowboys. This completely changed the trajectory of the game leaving the final score tied.

Parsons got the “win” in his books by sacking Prescott, a personal highlight in the frustrating outcome, but both teams felt unsatisfied with the overtime tie. “It’s hard to kind of wrap my head around it because I know I’d feel a hell of a lot worse if it was a loss,” Prescott said in a post-game interview. “But I’m not satisfied,” Prescott followed, making it clear he wanted the win. Parsons, who disrupted the Cowboys’ offense all game, contributed in a post-game interview as well. “I felt like I was giving them my best shot, and they gave me their best shot, and then we just came out into a draw,” Parsons said, pointing to the rough game, and both players shared feelings over it. Though Parsons wasn’t the only one who used to play for Dallas, a few other players from the Packers were former Cowboys out for blood too. Collectively, between all teams and ex-teammates, everyone was frustrated in the tie.
The Packers and Cowboys are in their own respective divisions; Green Bay belongs to NFC North, while Dallas represents NFC East. Since they aren’t in the same division, we won’t see this matchup again during the 2025-2026 regular season, making the tie all the more painful for each team. They would only meet again if the playoffs bring them together, making this game all the more rare for fans on either side.
In the end, Parsons was able to get his win of sacking Prescott, but Micah Parsons fans and Cowboys fans alike are frustrated at the lack of tribute for him because of all he did for the Cowboys. Sports analysts and reporters knew that the chances of a tribute were low due to the high tension and the way things ended between Parsons and Jones.
