On October 7, 2018, SpaceX successfully launched and landed the Falcon 9 rocket out of Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The rocket launch was visible throughout California, and even in some parts of Arizona. The purpose of the launch was to send two satellites into orbit. The satellites were outfitted with radar to aid in faster natural disaster and emergency responses.

Several Morro Bay students were watching the launch from their homes. They saw what Morro Bay student Trey Dennis described as “majestic.” Others, like Ozzy Gomez “saw it on Snapchat,” and several other social media sites. However, several students didn’t know what was happening. “I thought the world was gonna end. I was tripping out!” said junior Danny Rios.
