For the first time in Morro Bay High School history, Girls Water Polo played in CIF. Unfortunately, Varsity lost in the second round. Some things that allowed the team to be in the CIF were “changing league because Los Padres and South Central had private schools and scholarships, and Ocean League is closer and smaller but bigger than Morro Bay.” said Rosalie Rauenzahn. She believes that that this is one reason that her team was able to be part of the CIF this year.
The team beat Sierra High School 13-0 in the first round. In the second round they played against Garces High School in Morro Bay High School. The Varsity team lost in the quarter finals 5-4. Rauenzahn, a Sophomore, said that “it was a big first for Seniors because they worked so hard and they deserved it.” On Saturday November 3 “we went in the game prepared but something seemed off that day.”
Throughout the season the Varsity team struggled in the offense because shots weren’t going in. Rauenzahn attributed the team’s overall success to their good chemistry, their hard work in practice, their determination to win, and of course their coach.
