On November 4th, Morro Bay High School participated in a Surfing Competition at Pismo Beach. Despite many Morro Bay High School students riding over the competition in individual contests, the school took an unexpected dive in team-team competitions in an upset defeat with a score of 60 compared to Ventura High School’s 71.
The competition, which featured athletes from a variety of schools, ended in success for Kendra Twist with a first place victory in Women’s Longboard, Sydney Beckett, who earned first place in Women’s Shortboard, Nick Murphy, who received second place in CoEd Bodyboard for two contests in a row, Nolan Dorn, who finished in fifth place for Men’s Longboard, and Lauren Nagle, who got sixth place for Women’s Shortboard.
Taking place at Pismo Beach, the competition took place on chest to head high waves and smooth surface conditions, which held throughout almost the entire day. Mr. Fahy, advisor of Morro Bay High School’s Surf Club described the conditions as “perfect,” adding that he wishes “every competition was like this.” Concerning the team, Fahy said that he “thinks the team will grow over the next [few] years.”
