MBHS Wrestlers Earn 7th Place at CIT, Multiple Students Place

“This is so far the best year we’ve had in the last decade.”

Mike Aanerurd, Wrestling Coach

Morro Bay High School Boys Wrestling participated in the 2019 Sam Boyd CIT Wrestling Tournament, hosted here at Morro Bay High School, from Friday, January 18th to Sunday, January 20th. The event brought 90 schools here to MBHS, coming from as far away as Nevada. In the tournament, Morro Bay High School finished in seventh place and had four students place in the finals, Treiy Dennis, Marshall Beecham, Cole Visconte, and Tanner Daugherty.

The overall winner of the tournament was Servite High School from Anaheim, California,  though Morro Bay High School wrestlers grappled their way to several finishers in the top 8 for their respective weight classes. Currently, their record is 15-0 with a season that has had a strong showing, beating several top notch teams in events like the December 7th and 8th Rumble at the Rock.

Wrestling coach Michael Aanerurd said that the “team has been outstanding this year,” evidenced by their undefeated record and the fact that they have “locked up an Ocean league title.” He continued, saying that “this is so far the best year we’ve had in the last decade.” When asked about what he hopes to see the team approve in, he answered that “we can always get better in all areas and we still have lots of postseason goals to achieve.” That being said, the team’s success means that his “hopes for CIF are that we win the whole thing and move a bunch of guys on to the Masters tournament. “
