After being girls basketball head coach for two years, Tyler Fechner, has decided to take over the boys program. This means that there will be new administration on the girls side. Alex Engel, who was a former Morro Bay High School student, and graduate will be the new head coach. Engel played college basketball at Menlo College. During the past seven years, he has coached at Cuesta College for six years, and one year at Cal Poly State University.
After Engel held a meeting last Wednesday during lunch, he made it clear that he will have high expectations for all athletes who tryout for the team, and for those who make the team too. Engel would like to change the record that MBHS girl basketball team has, and win more games. But not only that, Engel wants all athletes to be dedicated to the game and have good work ethic. Some things may be the same from last year, while other things will be different was another point that Engel made.
Starting this summer, possibly this spring, practices will be held when the gym is available. Girls basketball will also have the opportunity to be in the weight room. There may be a chance for possible tournaments over the summer and during season to improve the competition for MBHS girls basketball team.
