MBHS was set to go up against the Mira Monte High Lions on September 27 and the Morro Bay fans were all there to cheer their team on. It was a home game, and the first game for MBHS in two weeks because of the bye week.

The J.V team was up first, and they lost the game with a score of 16-6. The offense was unable to get going for most of the game because of the great defense of Mira Monte. The running game was unable to get going, and MBHS threw multiple interceptions. MBHS did not score until the final drive of the fourth quarter, where they were unable to convert the two-point conversion. On the final drive, however, the passing game was able to get going, and Quarterback Nick Johnson was throwing multiple passes to Christian Merrill. According to some of the players, such as Hunter Whitson, the referees were missing many calls, such as pass interference calls. This drops the J.V teams’ record to 2-2 on the year.

The Varsity team was up next, and they had a winning streak on the line. Mira Monte ran the ball many times but was unable to get many yards against the MBHS defense. Morro Bay scored first in the game, gaining an early lead. Mira Monte was also able to score with a long rushing touchdown, but would not be able to score again until the final minutes of the game. Morro Bays passing attack was too much for the Mira Monte defense, as Kevin Franco threw multiple touchdowns, including a long pass down the middle of the field to a wide-open Orion Solu. Morro Bay was able to keep their winning streak alive, extending it to three games with a 27-14 victory over the Lions. MBHS record now improves to 3-2.

The next game is against the 5-1 St. Vincent de Paul High Mustangs, who have their own winning streak as well. It will be a home non-conference game played on Saturday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m.
