Varsity Football Loses Winning Streak Against St Vincent de Paul

The 3-2 MBHS Pirates went one-on-one against the 5-1 St Vincent de Paul Mustangs this week. MBHS was coming into the home game with a three-game win streak on the line. Going into the game, MBHS was 1-2 in home games, and 2-0 in away games.

The J.V game kicked off first, and they won their game with a score of 22-14. Sophomore Phoenix Popp had two rushing touchdowns and ran for over 100 yards on the game. The passing attack was on point as well, as MBHS threw no interceptions and had many passing yards. The defense held the Mustangs to two scores. They had multiple sacks, and Christian Merrill also had a pick-six, intercepting the ball and returning it for a touchdown. They also converted two 2 point conversions but missed out on one as well. This improves to J.V record to 3-2.

Next, the Varsity squad geared up for their game. The first quarter of the game was scoreless, and the first points of the game from a 4-yard rushing touchdown from St Vincent de Paul, giving them a 7 point lead. This was not the last score of the second quarter however, as the Mustangs scored a 22-yard passing touchdown to wrap up the second quarter. In the third quarter, MBHS was unable to score again, and the Mustangs put up another passing touchdown. In the final quarter of the game, the Mustangs scored once more. They recovered a MBHS fumble in the third quarter, which led them to a 12-yard rushing touchdown. MBHS finally got on the scoreboard with 8 minutes left in the game, where Kevin Franco threw the ball for a touchdown. The final score of the game was 28-7, with St Vincent de Paul getting the win. This puts an end to a three-game winning streak of the Pirates. MBHS’s record now falls to an even 3-3.

The Pirates’ next game will be an away game against Mission Prep, who are currently 2-4 This game will be Mission’s Homecoming Game. It will happen on Friday, October 11 at 7:00 p.m.
