Winter Sports are right around the corner, and plenty of students have signed up to play the sport they adore. These include Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Basketball, and Wrestling. There have been a lot of changes with these different sports, including new coaches for Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, and Boys Soccer. All of the students we interviewed seemed very excited about their upcoming sports as well.
The first person interviewed was sophomore Margaret Adams for Girls Wrestling. Regarding practices, Adams said, “There have been practices, and they have been very tough because we have been having to get back into things.” She also said that she joined Wrestling because she has an aggressive mentality. The Girls Wrestling season starts on November 14 with a scrimmage against Santa Maria.
Next, freshman Samantha Rivera of Girls Soccer said, “I have been playing for a long time and I thought it would be fun playing in high school.” She also said that her favorite part of being in Soccer is the teamwork and communication. The Girls Soccer season starts on Friday, November 15 with a game against SLO High.
The Boys Wrestling season is right around the corner, and sophomore John Riley is very excited for his second year of wrestling. On why he’s so excited, John had to say it was “because we won the league last year and we want to win again this year.” John also said that the reason that they are such a successful team is because of the tough practices they go through. The Boys Wrestling season starts on November 14 with a scrimmage against Santa Maria.
Senior Zeann McCarty was next for Girls Basketball, and she was “so excited” for the basketball season to start. Zeann had a hard time trying to decide what her favorite part of basketball was, and she finally said her favorite part was, “The community and the family part of it. I like being on a team, and we love each other up and encourage each other to make ourselves better.” The Girls Basketball season starts on November 16 against SLO High.
Sophomore Jackson Stover seemed pretty excited for his second year of Boys Soccer. Practices for Jackson have not been very difficult, as he said, “The practices haven’t been tough, it’s just been some conditioning and that’s it.” The Boys Soccer season starts on November 15 with a game against SLO High.
Finally, Junior Rebel Woodbury was interviewed for Boys Basketball. Rebel said that they have been working with their new coach on new strategies and better defense to beat their opponents. Rebel also said, “A few of our senior players are gone so we are not as athletic but we are smarter at playing basketball.” The Boys Basketball season starts on November 19 with a game against SLO High.
