Since the recent call for a shelter-in-place, San Luis Obispo has limited options for sources of entertainment. Some people may be reading or writing, but for others this may be too boring or not appealing enough to meet their needs. That’s where T.V. streaming platforms come in to fill their entertainment needs. Since COVID-19 will keep citizens in their houses for long lengths of time, binge-worthy T.V. and movie series will help to cope with the situation. Of course there are many different streaming platforms to watch from. 

Netflix

One of the biggest, if not the biggest, streaming platform, Netflix pioneered the idea of binge watching of T.V. shows and movies.

Some golden nuggets within Netflix’s massive selection of content include:

 Stranger Things

Netflix’s most renowned show, this 80s-themed series is very binge worthy with its dynamic cast of characters people can relate to and gripping story-line that oozes cliff hangers.

The Office

COVID-19 has brought adults around the world out of their offices, but now is the perfect time for you to get back into this one! With hilarious comedy and lovable characters, “The Office” will worm your way into your heart.

Breaking Bad

Ready for some crime? “Breaking Bad” offers high-stakes drama and morally grey characters. You’ll be on the edge of your seat from the pilot to the finale.

Game of Thrones

One of the most well-known shows of recent times, this show is all for the Lord of The Rings lovers with its genre of fantasy and similar tropes of mythical stories that truly make it binge worthy especially across its 8 seasons. Don’t get too attached…this show is not worried about subverting your expectations with a brutal and surprising story. 

Westworld

With a gripping futuristic story of a theme park filled with androids, Westworld‘s three seasons are sure to get you hooked. Beautiful cinematography and twists and turns abound in this riveting tale.

True Detective

Step into the world of crime and follow the work of detectives with True Detective. With three seasons, each telling a different story, this show combines crime-solving with character-driven drama.

Chernobyl 

One of the more recent shows HBO has to offer Chernobyl retells the story of the Chernobyl disaster, when a Ukraine nuclear reactor was destroyed. Although perhaps a bit of a slow-burn, this six-episode series is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and is made even more harrowing by the fact that it is a true story.

The Leftovers

With an intense, emotional story carried by outstanding acting, The Leftovers explores a world where 2% of the population disappeared without a trace. Despite a supernatural premise, the series delves deep into its very real characters as they deal with this world-changing event.

The Mandalorian

As the first Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian had a lot to live up to. Thankfully, it lived up to the challenge: its eight episodes are filled with the adventure that Star Wars lovers have come to expect as well as a space-western intrigue as we follow a lone bounty hunter and his lovable companion: Baby Yoda!

The Marvel Saga

Now is a good time to kick  back and relax with (almost) all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, stretching all the way back to Iron Man in 2008 to Avengers Endgame in 2019. Martin Scorsese may not think they are cinema, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t fun with their classic heroic antics and quippy dialogue. Unfortunately, you’ll have to head over to Netflix if you want to see Avengers: Infinity War or Ant-Man and the Wasp.
