A Look Back at the 2019-2020 MBHS Sports Season

With the school year coming to an end, so does the rest of the sports seasons. Every sport had their ups, their downs, and some teams didn’t get to play out their season.

The fall season brought many big moments for sports. The new football coach leading the team to have more wins then they did last season, earning a 3-game win streak and going to the first round of CIF. Although the Boys Water Polo team did not have their best season to date, they did come away with some major victories against SLO High and Atascadero High School. Finally, the Girls Volleyball team won the league championship but lost in the second round of the CIF Playoffs.

The winter season brought upon many memories for MBHS. Boys Basketball went on an 11 game win streak, won the Santa Maria High School Basketball Tournament, and made it to the CIF Playoffs. The Girls Wrestling team placed fourth in the CCAA League Finals Tournament with 80% of the wrestlers earning medals.

Although the Spring season started, it never really got into its groove. However, the Boys golf team won multiple matches, including a 216-220 win over Atascadero. The Stunt Team got a new coach and entered several competitions before everything was shut down.

Although some of the sports did not get to complete their season, there were many memories made. There were big wins, tough losses, and league championships won. Sports are expected to be back next year.
