Tyler Andree, a Morro Bay High School Chemistry teacher and girls swim coach was arrested on February 8th, 2021 on charges of “unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and solicitation of a minor,” as was reported by KSBY. This arrest followed Andree’s resignation on January 18, 2021 and a three week investigation by local police and resulted in Andree’s bail being set at $30,000.
These events came as a shock to us who, like many students and staff, were familiar with Andree. As our campus comes to terms with Andree’s alleged harmful misdeeds, it is important to keep the victims of his behavior at the forefront of our minds. Though news of Andree’s alleged actions may seem surreal to many who knew him, we must remember that they have had very real consequences and that those affected must be treated with empathy and compassion. Morro Bay High School should be a safe space for all students, and these allegations must be addressed in order to realize that goal.
At The Spyglass, we are committed to reporting the truth, even if it is hard to face. We will continue to cover these events as they unfold and are working hard to bring reactions to this story while respecting the privacy of those affected. We remain committed to fairly representing the students and staff of Morro Bay High School.
