MBHS Loses Second Straight Football Game Against Templeton

Morro Bay High played their second football game of the season this past Friday, March 26. They played an away game against Templeton High. MBHS was originally slated to face Pioneer Valley in Santa Maria, but plans were changed, and Templeton was the next opponent. 

MBHS received the opening kickoff to start the game. They got down into enemy territory, but the drive was put to a halt because of a Templeton interception. The Templeton Eagles went downfield, and scored a one-yard touchdown, making the score 7-0. MBHS got the ball back but were forced to punt after a costly sack. Templeton went downfield and scored another touchdown, ending the first quarter with a score of 13-0, with Templeton missing an extra point.

The second quarter was more of the same. Templeton added on two more touchdowns, along with a two-point conversion by the end of the half. Morro Bay, on the other hand, went scoreless. MBHS was forced to punt multiple times, even having one punt get blocked. The second half ended with a score of 28-0, with Templeton having a firm lead.

The third quarter began with Templeton receiving the ball. The Eagles went and scored yet another rushing touchdown, extending their lead to 35-0. The Pirates proceeded to go three and out, with another punt as the result. Once again, Templeton marched downfield and scored, making the score 42-0. After this, MBHS got the ball, and gained a first down on 3rd &4. Three plays later, they were forced to punt, ending the third quarter with a score of 42-0.

The fourth quarter began with Templeton having the ball. For the first time in the game, MBHS forced the Eagles to punt. The Pirates had a solid drive going, making it to enemy territory. One first down, QB Kevin Franco took a shot at the end zone but went incomplete. The very next play, Templeton ended up with their second interception of the game, taking the ball at their own 12-yard line. Templeton proceeded to drain some clock, and the game ended with a final score of 42-0.

The MBHS Pirates football team falls to 0-2 on the season with this recent loss. The Pirates’ next game will be an away game this coming Friday against Nipomo High at 7:00 p.m.
