Girls Basketball is back and better than ever for this upcoming season. They are coming back even stronger, practicing 6 days a week with an average of 3 hours a day, even hitting the weight room after practice In the week of November 15th the team played two non-league games to open their season. Here’s a quick recap of their past few games over the last month.

The first game of the season was a Pirate showdown, going up against the Santa Ynez Pirates at home. The girls were up 26-9 by the end of the first half. During the huddle, their head coach said “play like we’re down 5”. The girls were fired up to win their first game of the season at home. The Lady Pirates took their first win of the season with a final score of 54-22.

Their second game was an away game against Paso Robles High School. The Girls basketball team has been holding a grudge against the Paso Robles Bearcats since last year’s season. The Lady Pirates were more than ready to play the Lady Bearcats taking this as a rematch game for last year’s season fighting for 1st place in the league. The result of the game was another win with a final score of 42-26, adding another win to the Girls’ record concluding the games for November.

The Pirates came into their big game against St. Joe’s High with a record of 4-2. Crashing for rebounds and boxing out against players who were much taller than our team, the team pulled it together with Bella Musloff intercepting a pass and scoring the first 2 points after a 16 point run during the first quarter. The Lady Pirates held on strong and started taking advantage of their skilled 3 point shooters Jade McRae and Ashley Magday. One of the many highlights of the game was the buzzer-beater by Ashley Magday or as she called it “Butter Beazer” finishing off halftime with a banked three. Kristielyn Biado had a strong game putting up 8 points and winning the traditional game tape. But sadly they came to a loss after the great effort made by players to a score of 30-55 making their record 4-3.

This season has not yet started, but the Pirates already look fresh and ready to go. Their next home games will be on December 12th and 17th against Mission Prep and Templeton. Be sure to come and support our Girls Basketball Team and bring the best school spirit.
