Morro Bay Completes the Sweep Against Templeton


Morro Bay Boy’s Varsity Basketball played Templeton High School on Tuesday 1/25/22 at Morro Bay High School. Morro Bay High School won with a score of 59-40. This is the second game against Templeton. Morro Bay High School won the first game with a score of 64-51.  


Head Coach, Tyler Fechner, said Morro Bay Boys Varsity Basketball “overall facilitated the ball very well and used the shot clock to our advantage.” Senior Christian Merrill was ecstatic with his team and stated, “We came off strong with a good start and ended the first half with a nice lead. We handled the pressure well and ended with a win. It was great team play where everyone got involved, not just one person.” Senior Camden  Steeb was also optimistic after the win saying, “I think we overall played amazing, and the student section gave us a good boost.” 


Morro Bay had a strong first quarter leading 21-7 going into the second. The Pirates ended off the first half with only scoring 7 points but still continued to lead 28-18. Morro Bay finished the second half with a final score 59-40. Seniors Christian Merrill and Camden Steeb each had 16 points, contributing to more than half the team’s points. Junior JR Castillo’s 3 three pointers also played a key role for the offense. Morro Bay’s defense was led by Junior Laettner Goron and Senior James Avila combining for 8 steals.   


Morro Bay Boys Varsity Basketball is now 3-2 in league competition and will host Santa Maria 2-2 on Friday, 1/28/22 at 5:00pm. The game will be played at Morro Bay High School.
