Swimming is back! The season has not yet started, but that hasn’t stopped pirates from practicing. Off season practices are Mon, Wed, Fri from 3:30-5:30. According to girls head coach Alissa Marvin, “the full practice schedule will start on February 7th. JV & Varsity will practice 5 days a week Mon-Fri with an average of 2 hours a day from 3:30-5:30.” Coach Marvin also added that this year the Varsity team will also practice on some mornings. “The Varsity Team will have a couple extra practices in the mornings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.”

According to coach Marvin, the team is looking forward to an exciting season. “Our goals for the season as a MBHS team is to qualify as many athletes for CIF as possible,” said Marvin.Last year, 4 boys and 9 girls made it to the CIF, Coach Marvin hoping to increase those numbers by stating, “This season I hope to increase both those numbers. We have a lot of new freshmen that have shown interest in joining the swim team, and we also have a lot returning athletes this season”.

The First swim meet will be at SLOHS on March 5th. This meet is a little different than other regular dual meets that the team will compete in throughout the season because it is a relay only meet, meaning, there are no individual events. Coach Marvin stated that the relay meet is “a great way to kick off the season because it is not a league meet, and it is fun!” The team’s first tournament will be against Atascadero High School on Fri, Mar 11th.
