Film Contest Rules

  • The work should be all original, including music. Royalty free music must be credited. 
  • All submitted films must be no longer than 6 minutes, including credits. 
  • All films must have all proper clearances, rights and privileges for screening to the public. 
  • Student Filmmakers must be a registered Morro Bay High School student at time of submission. 
  • All films must be school appropriate and align with the guidelines established by Morro Bay High School
  • The submitter is to pick the category that they want to submit their film to, however advisors have the right to move a film to a different category if they feel it is more appropriate.
    • Drama (designed to be emotionally impactful)
    • Comedy (designed to be funny)
    • Animation (more than 50% digitally rendered, more than 50% drawings, or less than 50% live-action)
    • Non-English Speaking Films (must have 75% of language/dialogue non-english)
    • Other (horror, documentaries, action films, experimental movies, music videos, etc)
    • Unless previously stated in the above rules, the judging will not distinguish award films or filmmakers based on their gender, age, religion, or any other factors
    • Films must be submitted no later than 11:59 pm on Friday April 21st, 2023 to be considered for the contest. The film fest will take place on Monday May 8th, 2023.
  • Five prizes will be awarded: one to the best in each category and one overall.
    • Each category winner will receive a movie basket including two movie tickets and movie snacks
    • Best in show will have their winning film submitted to a larger film festival, free of cost and may also choose between a years subscription to Premiere Pro editing software or another camera/art supply of their choice within the same price range

      • Types of films could include but are not limited to:
        • Films designed to be funny
  • Animation
      • Types of films could include but are not limited to:
        • Films that are more than 50% digitally rendered
        • Films that are more than 50% drawings
        • Films that are less than 50% live-action
  • Other
    • Types of films could include but are not limited to:
      • Documentaries
      • Action films
      • Experimental movies
