Fashion At MBHS

Here at MBHS, Miranda Garibay and Itzel De La Rosa interviewed and took some photos of students to know more about people’s different style and how the way they dress identifies them as an individual. The styles identified are Streetwear, Preppy, And Basic style.

STREETWEAR STYLE

Streetwear is a casual fashion style that first became popular in the 1990s. It incorporates comfortable yet trendy clothing such as graphic tees, hoodies, sweatpants, and expensive sneakers. Streetwear takes inspiration from both hip-hop culture and skater style, with the added element of intentional product scarcity.

Freshmen Josue Salgado, is seen here at MBHS wearing the typical “Streetwear” style. As you can see he is wearing white Air Force 1s, a grey Nike zip up, dark blue baggy jeans, a white t-shirt as well as his necklace that has a cross and his red NY hat. Josue is always dressed as “Streetwear” to school everyday, as well as outside of school.

Sophomore Gerardo Marcial, is seen wearing black baggy jeans, a dark grey pro-club hoodie, and as well as Jordan 3s. Gerardo had said “It is hard to come up with a new outfit everyday in the mornings. But, in the mornings I don’t think so much about it. So I just throw on whatever.”

Junior Jesiah Aguilar, is seen wearing a black hat, with a blue t-shirt, black baggy pants, and black vans. Jesiah said “It is hard to come up with an outfit everyday, because I have to find new clean clothes everyday.”

Freshman Stevie Hernandez, is seen wearing black baggy jeans, with black Air Force 1s, and a half grey and half white jacket. Stevie had said “The person I admire the most is myself because everyone kind of has the same style and I don’t really see anyone different then others.

PREPPY STYLE

The preppy aesthetic, characterized by crisp plaid button-downs, chino shorts, loafers and brightly colored polos with popped collars, has been making waves in style circles lately as the look has seeped into many new brands.

Adrina Asuncion she is a Freshman wearing a black zip up, with a grey Cal Poly jacket underneath, as well as some crème pants, and brown boots. Adrina likes to dress comfortable but yet with style. She had also told us she doesn’t see her outfit changing much from now into three years when she’s a Senior.

Emerson Jackway is also a freshman in MBHS, Emerson is seen wearing a black sweater with blue and white stripes, she has brown pants, and as well as black shoes. Emerson is always dressed as “preppy” to school everyday, as well as outside of school. She also had mentioned how she loves her style and doesn’t think that it will change over the years she has left in high school.

Ava Wright and Ashley Beltrama are both in Freshman. Ava Wright has on a blue sweater with pastel colors on it, as well with purple bell bottom legging pants, and white convers. We had asked Ava “How does the outfit you are wearing today describe what you are feeling today?” she responded with “Well I’m dressed comfy. Oh, and I have some disco earrings on because I like music” Although, Ashley has on a black crop top, with a black and white flannel, some blue jeans, and white Nike shoes. We had also asked Ashley “Who’s outfits do you inspire in this entire world?” she had said “My sisters outfits inspire me.”

BASIC STYLE

We know the hallmarks of a basic style when we see them. They’re usually white or black. They’re simple and unobtrusive. And, in most cases, they can be totally predictable. But, for those willing to rewrite fashion rules, basics can be literally anything.

Maybeline Hernandez and Karina Carranza are both in Freshman. Maybeline is wearing a black sweater, and blue bootcut jeans, and as well with platform converse. We asked Maybeline a question “How does the outfit today describe what you are feeling today?” and she answered with “I was tired this morning so I put on whatever, I like to dress comfortable but decent at the same time.” Although, Karina is wearing a white shirt, with a black zip up, black baggy pants, and with black adidas. Karina had mentioned how likes her style, and overtime she thinks it might change.

Grace Sargant is a sophomore. In this photo Grace is wearing a grey zip up, black baggy pants, and purple Jordan 1s. Grace is always dressed as “Basic” to school everyday, as well as outside of school. Grace had said that “I dress how I feel and I don’t care what others have to say because it’s how I like and what I feel comfortable in.”

Overall, seeing peoples different style is not what you expect. Fashion is a form of self-expression and autonomy at a particular period and place and in a specific context, of clothing, footwear, lifestyle, accessories, makeup, and hairstyles. Their are more than these 3 styles but these styles are what are seen more often at MBHS.
