On Monday, Morro Bay’s boys soccer team looked to extend their win streak after traveling to Santa Maria to play a tough match against the knights. The team had a chance to sweep the series against the knights for the season after winning their first match 3-0.
Morro Bay’s defense held the knights in the first half but failed to capitalize on opportunities, at half the score was 0-0. Later in the second half the knights took the lead making it 1-0 by freshman John Sevcik. The pirates had to fight to get back in the game. Then senior foreign exchange student Jonah Kressin put the ball in the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 in the final minutes. The team managed to come out with a tie after trailing by one.
Jonah Kressin, who scored Morro Bay’s only goal had this to say about his goal, “It was sick, I really wanted to score against them cause they were being really cocky so when I scored it felt great.”
Junior soccer player, Anthony Frere added onto what Kressin said saying, “Something that went well was Jonah’s goal, it was a nice clean shot on the ground that went into the back of the net.”
After the tie on monday, Morro Bay played against the 2-13-3 Nipomo Titans looking for a better result than their last match.
Once again the pirates defense held the opposing team to a scoreless first half. Even though the Titans were held to no goals, Morro Bay wasn’t able to go ahead before halftime. In the second half, the pirates jumped ahead of Nipomo with a goal from Senior forward, Abraham Cruz. This goal in the last few minutes propelled the team to another clean sheet win.
Junior forward Alonso Casillas had this to say about Cruz’s goal, “He’s scored I don’t know how many goals but he plays a crucial role in the attack and is a great part of this team.”
