Cross Country continued its vast success this season, raising the bar for its athletes and striving for excellence at every level. Junior athlete Joseph Beard summarizes the season so far, “It’s been really fun. We’ve been doing these overnight meets, and they’re really cool. Currently, we’re trying to prepare for the county and state,” said Beard.

Senior Athletes Phaedra Fernflores and Astrid Barnett-Davis add their thoughts about the success this season. “Everyone has been working really hard,” said Fernflores. Speaking of hard work, all the runners shouted out to Abe Gade for his patience in taking care of his injury. Gade has been diligently attending physical therapy and maintaining his physical fitness to ensure success in Cross-Country.

Cross Country has had several overnights so far this season, which are popular with the team, as they provide a break from schoolwork and the ability to really focus on the sport and their performance. The overnights are also a great opportunity for team bonding and running in new, fresh spaces.

Fernflores and Barnett-Davis spoke on team bonding a little more, with the beloved chocolate milk practices. “It’s exactly what it sounds like. We get chocolate milk at practice, and it’s cold, and it’s really good,” said Barnett-Davis. The runners also mentioned the spirit of the team and how cohesively all the runners work together, creating a positive and encouraging environment for MBHS’s runners. “Everyone really has a good time at practice, and we’re always like working together and celebrating each other when someone has a really good run or works really hard at practice,” said Fernflores. “Yes, there’s definitely a lot of team spirit, and we just really enjoy being together to have the chance to work on our performance. Especially this season, as a senior, it feels really good to run with people you’re friends with.”

Fellow Senior athlete Joaquin Cueller added on about the experience of the senior runners this year, “It’s been cool. Cross Country is a really good sport to play when you’re a senior, because you set goals for yourself and so you push yourself, because it’s your responsibility,” Cueller

Cross Country has been continuing to raise the bar for all of its athletes, creating a friendly and welcoming environment while pushing athletes to perform their best. MBHS Cross Country is on the radar of many incoming freshmen, runners of all grades, and hobbyists who run for fun, for a good reason.
