There have been around six competitions for the surf team, with the last competition being on Sunday, Jan. 11. Senior Lola Weatherly has been on the surf team for all four years, and she says that if there is one thing that she could change for next season is to have more practices. Weatherly wants to have more practices to be able to be with the team more during the season.

The practices this season were only on Monday mornings at the Rock, and competitions were on the weekends. Some members who performed very well this season were seniors Reese Kelly and Adrina Asuncion. Weatherly mentioned that one thing she enjoys the most about the surf team is “I like the competitions.” Although there are only 6 competitions this season, Weatherly really likes it when the team gets to go to one.

This season, a majority of the team were seniors. They all hope that more people will join next year so there will be a good team like the years past. So far, there are six coaches to help out the surf team, with the head coach being Mr. Gade. The season is pretty long, starting in September and ending in late January. There are competitions all around the area, and it depends on the schedule to know how many competitions there are in the season.

The last competition for the surf team this year was on Jan. 11.  Kelly, a senior on the surf team, said “it was a good last competition.” Kelly said that Asuncion and junior Coleen Nelson did really well at the competition. Kelly also said that since the competition was the last for the seniors, some of the teammates on the team got together to make it a special last day for the seniors who are leaving. Most of the seniors this year have been on the surf team all four years of high school. “For being on the team for so long, then having to leave is a big change, and it was special to have a fun last day on the surf team,” said Kelly.

The coaches are looking forward to having new freshmen on the team and to hopefully have more people join the team since there are a lot of seniors leaving this year. They hope to have some people come ready to give it their all during the season! Let’s get some more people out there in the water. You don’t have to be in the competitions; you can just go out on Monday mornings and support the team.

The surf team is finally over for the season after a long four months of the season. But it will start back up next September, so be ready for some fun in the sun!
