Boys Basketball has been on an uprise lately, with the freshman team winning against Nipomo. JV and Varsity both lost in very close games, with the JV game ending on a buzzer-beater by Nipomo in the 4th quarter, forcing overtime. In overtime, the Pirates fought hard, losing by only four.

Varsity sadly lost all of their recent games, losing to Nipomo, Orcutt Academy, and Pioneer Valley. Orcutt came back with vengeance after losing to Morro Bay last time. Stone Hawk is now averaging a double-double with 14.2 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2.4 assists per game. Griffin Doherty now leads the team in blocks with 23 over their 19 games, averaging 1.2 blocks per game. The boys are 5th in the Ocean League, above Orcutt Academy, and only one game below Cabrillo. Varsity has its senior night on Dec. 6 against Cabrillo.

JV has been winning a lot recently, having won their last four out of five games, beating Orcutt Academy, Pioneer Valley, Cabrillo, and Santa Maria. Noah Erwin(Freshman) said, “We’ve been doing great recently; all of our games were pretty close, but we won.” Erwin has been doing great this season, scoring many points for his team, his season high being 24 against Nipomo, sadly losing 55-52. Erwin also said, “This is definitely a good season to build off of. I learned through other players and my teammates what I could work on.”

After losing to Nipomo in a heartbreaking game, they went on to beat Orcutt Academy and Pioneer Valley. The games against Orcutt had a score of 48-36, and the game against Pioneer was 49-41. They have their Final games against Cabrillo and Santa Maria on Dec. 6 and Dec. 10, 2025.

The Freshman team has been doing amazing this season. After going on a three-game win streak, Pioneer Valley finally ended it with a win over Morro Bay. Morro Bay only lost by three points, the score being 31-28. Jaxon Lindsey and Evan Furlong have been having great freshman seasons.  Lindsay is averaging 14.4 points per game, and Furlong is averaging 9.1. Lindsay has a total of 230 points this season, and Furlong has a total of 137. Avery Raya said, “I really believe a lot of my teammates are gonna be really good and end up with me on varsity.”

Raya also said, “I think Jaxon (Lindsey) has definitely improved a bunch. You can tell he’s been putting in work outside of practice. He’s fighting for a spot on JV or maybe even Varsity next year.”
