The boys’ baseball team had its first game on Feb. 24, 2026. Both varsity and JV have started their season in the league. After months of anticipation, training, and tryouts, the teams are gearing up to take the field. This season will give the players a chance to showcase their skills and build new relationships with their teammates. In their first game JV lost 2-9, and varsity lost 9-14.
Freshman Cal Clayton played his first JV high school game. Clayton said he thinks his team worked together pretty well in their first ever game as a team. He said, “I think we did good overall even though we lost.” Clayton said they didn’t have very many communication errors. “Our teamwork was our biggest strength during our game against SLO.” Clayton said. His team needs to be more encouraging of one another, and we all need to have a better mindset. “A lot of my teammates, including me, get down on ourselves after making just one mistake. Other people get mad at each other for making a mistake, so instead of getting angry, we need to be more uplifting and encouraging.”
Clayton said they faced many challenges from the opponent getting a lot of runs, but they managed to strike them out a couple of times. “When there were balls in between people, we did a good job communicating who they were and who was going for the ball. Clayton says Hunter Stow, a sophomore, played really well and pitched the first three innings really well. “I also stepped up when I was one of the only ones to get to the base. Later in the game, I stole 3rd, and then later in the game I stole home for our first run of the game.” Clayton said. Clayton said they can improve by not getting as many strikes on us and swinging on better pitches. Clayton said their defense was really good, but the offense could’ve gone into the game more confident.
Junior Cash Waldon, played his first game this season on varsity. Waldon thinks the team worked well together, but some mistakes did occur. “A challenge our team faced was when we had some defensive errors but when we did we cleaned them up pretty easily.” Waldon says a strength they had was hyping each other up and their offense. “The communication wasn’t too bad, we just were a little iffy on our communication on defense.” Waldon says senior Quentin Crotts stepped up in a big way by hitting two home runs. “I think our team is going to do very good this season and our hitting overall as a team was really good” said Waldon.
The boys’ baseball team has many more games and events to come. This season will show how good they are. Can’t wait to see where the next games take them, and hopefully they can get a win soon. Their next game is Saturday, the 28th at Morro Bay High school.
