Every few years, there seems to be a brand new craze over a specific fidget toy. In 2015, it was fidget spinners, in 2019, it was slime, and now in 2026, it is Nee-Dohs. Once again, there is a singular item that will be at the top of every kid, pre-teen, and teen’s wishlist for every event possible for the rest of the year.

Nee-dohs are best described as a squishy, palm-sized, stress relief and sensory toy for young kids. They come in a variety of shapes, colors, and textures, and can be stretched and rolled around as if they were actually dough. The standard nee-doh is a simple cube shape, not too soft, but just enough that you can entertain yourself for hours on end rolling around. While initially launched in 2017, and in 2025 is when the toy started to gain popularity, and now in 2026, they have reached an all-time high with ages ranging from children to full-grown adults.

It is no secret how crazy some people will go for this seemingly simple toy. Many parents line up as early as six6 a.m. outside a Target just for a chance of snatching one of these coveted items. Many stores have implemented a limit to how many nee-dohs one person can take, often only being 1 or 2. Other toys that have been racking up the same traction are Dumplings. Specifically for its blind bag surprise, and the hope of maybe opening one of their rare glitter dumplings.

Recently online, a mother received much backlash after posting a video where she took her daughter and her daughter’s friend to their local Five5 Below looking for giant dumplings to open, and made the daughter’s friend give hers to her daughter just because it was one of the rare glitter ones. This single incident sparked massive controversy online and started conversations about just what is too far to go for a squishy toy. The mother tried to defend her actions online, while only digging herself a deeper hole. It is crazy to believe that one fidget toy can cause so much anger and frustration in one child’s life.

Many schools have even gone as far as banning the toys from classrooms due to their distracting learning environments with students. It is not crazy to wonder if people are acting irrationally over a toy, but again, this seems to happen again and again every few years with different sensory toys. The craze over the colorful toys may die down sooner than we think, and it is only a matter of time until a new toy takes the internet by storm and has parents lining up outside Target again.
