Senior Gabrielle “Gabi” White is MBHS Journalism’s Co-Editor-in-Chief. A journalism fanatic, White has always enjoyed English as a subject ever since writing stories for her grandmother in elementary school. “When I joined journalism last year,” said White, “it was honestly the best move I ever made other than joining drama.” White enjoys communicating with other writers, exploring niche stories, and meeting new people through interviewing.
Throughout the 7+ shows that White has costumed, she’s gained experience, great energy, and a love for Drama Club.
White can also be spotted as the ASB secretary and marketing director, Drama Club’s costume designer and social media manager, and an employee at Vintage Cheese Company. Erin Davis, Vintage Cheese Company’s owner and the director of MBHS Drama, pulled White aside when seeing her work in drama and gave her another opportunity to manage social media for her company. This opportunity gives White more experience for her future career plans.
White’s connection with music is heavily influenced by her grandmother. When White was younger, she kept asking her grandmother, “Can you play the sadder songs again?”
White enjoys lyricism, concerts, as well as listening, and playing music. Her favorite artists include Clairo, Big Thief, Joni Mitchell, and Adrianne Lenker.
Another interest of White’s is costume design. Since her freshman year, she’s been the MBHS Drama Club’s costume designer, and she has found a great passion for it.
“Costuming is just so beautiful… every show has brought me something new and I feel even more connected to it.”
After high school, White plans to attend a college on the East Coast, specifically in Massachusetts, to pursue a degree in media studies/communications. She’d prefer to manage for theatre or journalism companies.
When asked if she believes that everything will work out for her, White said, “I believe that you have to get through the rough parts to get to the good… life is a risk that you have to be willing to take… I think that anywhere I will go, I will be fine.”
“I am as nervous as any senior is,” White said about this upcoming year.
With her dreams of the East Coast in mind, she hopes to become more involved in the school she has been attending for the past four years, meaning sports games and school events. It is a completely bittersweet chapter for White, while she appreciates her last year in high school.
