Preparing to enter her final year at Morro Bay High School, Haley Hart is set on enjoying every moment. “I miss summer, but it’s my last year, so I’m trying to soak in all of it,” she said, thinking about the bittersweet transition from summer to the school year.
Hart has been a familiar person on campus, involved in multiple activities throughout her high school career. Despite growing up playing soccer, she began playing golf her freshman year, a sport she now loves, and is currently on varsity. She has also been involved in Drama Club here on campus, as a hair designer, as well as being one of the yearbook editors here on campus. Out of all her commitments, Hart said Yearbook class has quickly become one of her favorites.“I like doing graphic design type stuff,” said Hart. This school year, Hart said she wants to “try not to rush through this year or just get it over with and try to really enjoy it, even if it’s hard because I’m not gonna be here for that much longer.”
Beyond extracurricular activities, Hart is a long-time member of Journalism, participating in the class since her freshman year. “I love to talk, and journalism has a lot of talking. I love writing, just anything social,” she said. With her kind personality, she naturally loves storytelling and connecting with others.
Outside of school, she enjoys hanging out with friends, thrifting, spending time at the beach, and doing anything “artsy.” While Hart describes herself as extroverted and “an open book,” many of her closest friends are quieter, more reserved people. Hart said she enjoys this more. “I like it because I can talk enough for two people…usually I’m more drawn to people who are quieter because I want everybody to feel included.”
Looking ahead, Hart hopes to attend UC Santa Cruz, a campus she fell in love with during a visit last spring. “It was the most beautiful campus I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” she said. Her dream is to pursue journalism, specifically writing columns and personal essays. “I always said I wanted to be like a journalist and work somewhere where I could write columns…maybe give advice, even if I don’t really think I’m in a place to give advice,” she said, laughing.
After college, Hart’s plans are set. “In about five years, I’m probably going to be graduating from college and just being set up, you know, having a job somewhere I like, and maybe having a cute little boyfriend.”
Getting ready to graduate, Hart’s goals are simple: finish strong, appreciate her time at MBHS, make memories with others, and take the next step towards the future.
