Kaleo Gaberel

Kaleo Gaberel, Writer

Kaleo Gaberel is a freshman at Morro Bay High School who joined journalism with the intention of exploring a career related to sports statistics. To Gaberel, sports statistics is a job he finds great interest in because he “loves to watch sports and the numbers,” said Gaberel. Some of his favorite sports to watch are basketball, football, and occasionally soccer.

Gaberel hasn’t lived here his whole life; he grew up in Humboldt before his family eventually moved to Los Osos. His first name, “Kaleo,” is of Hawaiian descent, originating from his family, who are of Hawaiian descent.

Gaberel is involved with soccer at Morro Bay High School. “I’ve played soccer for nine years now, and I play center defensive mid,” said Gaberel. Gaberel is not interested in joining a club this year and would rather just focus on his classes and soccer.

Gaberel is more than just a soccer player; his friend Sienna Dvoracek describes him as “funny, smart, and easy to talk to.” Gaberel is taking Honors Algebra II (a class that is usually for Juniors) and Spanish II.

“I just mainly focus on school; I don’t play sports outside of school.” He stays so focused during school because he “wants to end with a good job and good pay,” Gaberel said. He keeps up in sports and stays on top of his advanced classes, despite how difficult the task may be.

He takes lots of classes during summer school to get ahead, but he intends to graduate at the same pace as everyone else. Gaberel’s parents push him to dual enroll because they want him to be “successful in life” and to have “an easy life.” Through dual enrollment, Gaberel should graduate high school with high honors and be partially done with his bachelor’s degree.

Kaleo is a straight-A student, resilient, and a hard worker who is excited for journalism this year.
