Logan Kusko, Writer

Logan Kusko, a senior at Morro Bay High School, is preparing to step into her next chapter as she reflects on her time in high school. On campus, she has been playing for our tennis team for four years, making it on varsity her junior and senior years. Off campus, Kusko can usually be found walking her dog, Bruno, making jewelry, or watching TV. Kusko’s material of choice when it comes to her crafts is wire with charm bracelets. As a diligent maker, Kusko said, I keep jewelry fixing materials in my purse so I can always fix my jewelry,” which includes things like wire cutters and pliers.

Kusko plans to graduate early in the fall. She plans to either take a gap semester during the spring or go straight to Cuesta College and “get a head start on the Cuesta Promise.” After community college, Kusko hopes to get a master’s degree in Psychology in order to become a marriage and family therapist. Kusko knows that it will require a lot of schooling, but said,I feel like it will be worth it.”

When asked why she wanted to graduate early, Kusko said, “I feel the public school environment is really not conducive to my learning, and the whole aura of school stresses me out a lot.” In particular, Kusko reflects on the rigidity of the environment, being told when I can eat and use the bathroom feels really restrictive.”

Despite these aspects, Kusko did enjoy some moments during her time in high school. One of her favorite memories includes going to prom in her sophomore year, which she remarks was her best school dance experience. When asked if she was going to miss anything once she graduates, she said, I’m going to miss those muffins. Those cafeteria muffins are really good, actually.  I’m also going to miss my best friend, Haley Aana Hart, and her weird tongue movements.” Though Kusko’s high school experience was bittersweet, she is ready to step into her next chapter of life with full vigor and excitement.
