“Ambitious, hardworking, and caring” are just a few things people have said to describe Mia Moss. Moss is a junior who loves reading, animals, and the beach. “I also love writing in my journal,” Moss said. She decided to come to California because of her love for the beach. Her favorite animal is a dog, but she doesn’t have any pets, though she has always wanted a dog because of her love for animals. Moss has an older brother, Ben, and a younger sister named Lyn, who is 14. Moss said, “I’m really close with my family, I love to spend time with them, and I miss them a lot.”
Moss, an exchange student from Germany, is spending a semester at Morro Bay High School this year. She explained how “most of the time when I’m at school it’s so busy I can’t really think of it, but I really do miss my family and sometimes I get homesick, but I think it will get better the longer I’m here and the more I get used to my everyday life.” When asked what she misses most about Germany, she said, “I just miss all my friends and my family.” Something here that is different from her home country is that teenagers can drive, because in Germany, most people who still attend school don’t have their license.
Moss is taking US history, AP English, Spanish, and Introduction to Law. Moss said her favorite subject here is Introduction to Law. She likes all her classes, but she explained how it is difficult sometimes because of the language barrier.
Moss said, “I really enjoy volleyball and tennis,” when asked about some of her hobbies. She is on the varsity tennis team. Mia Moss said she started tennis at around 7 years old and has loved it ever since. She started playing because her whole family played together, and now it has become a big part of her life.
Moss said she wants to “make a lot of great memories, meet new people, and try all the things I’m able to try here,” when asked about her goals for this semester. She is excited to be here and to be able to experience Morro Bay High School.
The word Moss chose to describe herself is “overthinker” because when she “has a problem or even a small situation, I think about it all day and stress myself out.” Mia Moss chose this class to improve her writing and her communication skills. She is enjoying taking this Journalism class at Morro Bay High School.
