Zoe Fitzwater, Sports Section Editor
As Zoe Fitzwater is entering her senior year of high school, there were a couple of questions asked about how her school year will go. Fitzwater said, “My goal is not to fail my senior year of high school and get accepted into college.” Fitzwater is a straight-A student, so it will be no problem for her to not fail high school. There are high hopes for her this upcoming year.
Fitzwater has been on the varsity team for girls basketball for about four years now, “I’m really excited to play basketball one last time in high school before I go to college. I’ve been a varsity starter for four years now, and this is my second year of being captain. and I’ve been playing basketball for ten years now.” Fitzwater said. “Most kids when entering high school would think they will be on varsity, but you have to work hard to earn that position”. And that’s what Fitzwater did; she put in 110%. Being a student athlete can be very hard for some students here at Morro Bay High School. Most of the kids at MBHS are student-athletes and tend to struggle with catching up with their schoolwork.
Katy Conlin, Fitzwater’s basketball coach, had many things to say about Zoe. Conlin said, “Some things I like about Zoe, I don’t know, not a lot. I’m just kidding, she laughs a lot, she makes me laugh a lot, she’s a hard worker, and she is a good leader.”
When most kids are asked, “What is going to be our favorite class this year”? Usually, the response would be lunch or nutrition. Fitzwater said, “None of my classes are my favorite, but if I had to choose one class, I would choose Journalism. The reason why this is going to be my favorite class is because I love to write a lot and learn new things.” Fitzwater’s advice for the kids that are going to be entering high school and starting fresh, Fitzwater said, “My advice is to stay positive.”
It is clear that Zoe has a very bright future ahead of herself, and she needs her confidence to get her through life.
