Morro Bay’s Cross Country team’s season is coming to a close by the end of the month. The team has had a brilliant season, and worked super hard to come as far as they have in the time that they had. After the cross country season ends, many cross country athletes plans continue their love of running in track & field. Many cross country athletes are also athletes from other sports, who join cross country to remain in shape during their off-season. Cross country is an incredibly multifaceted sport that’s useful for all sports players at MBHS.

Speaking a little on how their season has gone so far, senior varsity athlete Phaedra Fernflores described the season and her feelings on it now that it is coming to an end: “I’m really sad that the season is almost over, you know? I really like [going] to practice with all my friends, and being able to run with them on the weekends and bike and condition for cross country together because it’s literally just really fun,” said Fernflores. Fernflores spoke a little about how the end of the season feels as a senior. “Well, as a senior, it’s really, really sad when the season comes to an end. But, at least I’m really proud of how good we’ve been in our season and how hard everyone has been working. I’m so proud of everyone. Also, you can usually continue to see the same people at track & field that you would in cross country,” Fernflores said.
Fellow senior varsity athlete Astrid Barnett-Davis spoke on what it means to her to be a senior athlete, “I think it’s just working really hard and doing the best you can, you know, because you’re also balancing so many things like college applications and tests, and school projects. Being a senior athlete is hard, but it helps set you up for college sports too,” said Barnett-Davis.Dominic Holst and Joaquin Cuellar, more senior varsity athletes, spoke some more on the subject. “We’re gonna miss cross country.”

Every single cross country athlete has absolutely hit it out of the ballpark this season, showing up, working hard. Running even in the pouring rain in Morro Bay, or blistering heat in Ojai and the valley. When our dedicated and hardworking MBHS students put the work in, truly anything can happen. Stay prepared and tuned for the next MBHS sport most beloved by runners, track & field, which will have plenty of exciting moments and fun meets to attend! It will be coached by the same coach as MBHS’s cross country team, Coach Jennifer Frere.
