The pool deck was buzzing with excitement as the girls’ water polo team celebrated their annual senior night, a night filled with laughter, nostalgia, and pride. It wasn’t just another game; it was a heartfelt tribute to the seniors who have become like family to each other.

For senior Gianna Palmer, who’s been playing water polo for nearly 5 years, the night was “radical.” “Every year the juniors read nice things about the seniors,” she said. “This year they even surprised us with a rap they wrote and performed for us.” “It was hilarious and so sweet,” said Palmer. The parents filled the stands with flowers, cookies, and cameras in hand, cheering as the team dominated the game. “We won that day too, which made it even better.”
Senior Aleya Paul agreed that the atmosphere was unforgettable. “The energy was so high,” she said. “We had so many friends and family come out to support us. It was emotional, but also really fun.” It felt like one of those first “lasts” of senior year.” The team crushed Cabrillo with a score of 15-2, but Paul said the night was about more than just winning. “What made it so special was everything the parents and team did, the signs, the decoration, and the speeches.” It really showed how close we are.”
Junior Emilee Lange, who helped organize the celebration, said that even underclassmen felt included. “I gave one of the senior speeches and helped make shirts and posters,” she said. “It was so lively, everybody was laughing and having fun, but also a little sad because it was one of our last games with the seniors.” Lange also said that the team’s bond has grown stronger this year, especially after traveling together to Greece over the summer. “We got so much closer there, and it really shows when we play,” she said.
The celebration ended with cheers, photos, and a few tears as the seniors reflected on their years in the program. “I’ll miss my teammates the most,” Paul said. “They’re like family.” Palmer said, adding that the younger players should ”always bring the intensity, otherwise the Coach will definitely let you know.”
As the team moves into CIF playoffs, the seniors are leaving behind a legacy of teamwork, dedication, and friendship that will inspire the next generation. Lang, looking ahead to her own senior year, summed it up best: “Chaotic, close-knit, and fun – that’s us. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
