The MBHS basketball team has finally finished its season. Varsity finished with a record of 5-22, being 2-8 in league. The JV team ended with a record of 7-10. The freshman team went 12-7, ending with a record of 7-2 in league. Varsity sadly missed the playoffs this year.

Varsity ended the season with a loss against Santa Maria, who is top of the league, with a record of 10-0. The boys ended last in their league. Being only one game behind Orcutt and Nipomo. Varsity scored a total of 1314 points as a whole. The boys were third in points scored. However, they were also third in points given up, having 1747 points scored against them. Senior Stone Hawk finished his final season as a Pirate, averaging 14.9 points per game, 10 rebounds, three assists, and 2.4 steals per game. JV also ended the season with a 56-44 loss against Santa Maria. The team gave up a total of 776 points, but also scored 680. Freshman Chase Taylor said, “I feel like this was a very good team, and I feel like we did well. We could probably improve on our shooting and passing. I think the most improved player is Hunter, because he was okay at the beginning of the season, but now he’s better than okay.” The boys’ highest scoring game was when they scored 54 points against Pioneer Valley, ending in a win. The highest scoring players were freshman Noah Erwin, Hadrian Reynoso, a freshman,  and Elliot Bravante, a sophomore. Erwin said, “Our best game was against Nipomo. Even though we lost, we played great defense and brought the game to overtime. I think next year we are going to have a winning record.”

The freshman team finished off the season amazingly, winning against Cabrillo and Santa Maria. They were also the only team with more points scored than points against, scoring 833 points in a total of 19 games. They also only had 635 points scored on them. Jaxon Lindsey finished off a great first season with the Pirates, averaging 14.8 points per game and having a point total of 266 points. Evan Furlong also did great this season, averaging 9.2 points per game. Furlong said, “It’s cool that I’m doing pretty well. I think the team is good. The most improved player is definitely Rohn. He wasn’t exactly the greatest, but now he’s pretty good.”

All the teams did great and worked really hard this season. Congrats to all the teams and all the players. Seniors, we are sad to see you go, but it was a great last season for all of you.
