Who Has the Best Burritos: San Miguel Market or Tacos de Mexico?

It is no secret that a sacred gem in California is its gift of authentic Mexican food across the state. One of the fondest moments you can spend on the Central Coast is enjoying a burrito with some friends on the beach. It is a treat that many different students at MBHS enjoy at lunch, however, many have wondered which restaurant has the best food for students. My credibility into this investigation is being a proud Morro Bay Mexican girl raised on the Central Coast. The meat should be seasoned with good flavor, along with well cooked rice and beans, and lastly a salsa that helps melt all the flavors in your mouth. Of course, being a burrito, you also would want to hope it stays in the tortilla while also being a good bang for your buck, especially when you’re just a high school student. Two of the most well known Mexican food places between Los Osos and Morro Bay are, Tacos De Mexico, located on 980 Main St, Morro Bay (often referenced as only “Tacos De” among students), and the San Miguel Market & Deli located on 2060 9th St D, Los Osos.

The first place to try was San Miguel Market. I found that they had a decent price for their asada burrito at just $9.95. The burrito contained asada, rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Wait time was also moderately decent, with waiting only about 5 minutes for my food after I ordered. The meat was impeccably seasoned with a very rich flavor. The rice melted with the cheese was delicious. Each and every bite truly blessed my taste buds. However, the beans were admittedly not my favorite. The beans felt a little soggy and didn’t exactly go with the rest of the burrito, and its green salsa, in fact, did not have a kick at all. Overall, I give this burrito an 8/10, for its amazing flavors and yummy rice, as well as a short wait time.

Tacos De’s asada burrito is only $8.95, with only a little bit shorter in length, but packed up to the brim with flavors. Containing asada, onions, rice, guacamole, sour cream, beans, and cheese, this burrito is just bursting in flavors. The employees are also incredibly nice, enthusiastically taking your order and being sure the customer will be satisfied by asking what spice level for salsa they enjoy. I tried the mild salsa, which certainly contributed flavor and a kick to the burrito. Wait time was about the same as San Miguel, which greatly contributed to a faster way to get back to the school at lunch.

Both restaurants serve phenomenal food for anybody to enjoy, with both being well cared for establishments that our community can enjoy. Personally, my pick will always go to Tacos De for an asada burrito, but I can enjoy a San Miguel one every once in a while.
