After almost ten long-awaited years, Bruno Mars released his album, “The Romantic,” on Feb. 27. Mars has done collabs since releasing his last album in 2016, but it has been quite some time since he released a completely solo album to add to his discography. This new album, however, tests all sorts of new music and pays tribute to the historically most romantic music genres, Mariachis. This album pays tribute to Latin grooves as well. The funky beat with the classic Bruno Mars twist can’t help but cause its listeners to just get up and dance with their partner, just like Mars had intended.
“Risk It All”
The album opens with its first song, called “Risk It All.” A song where the singer details that he would do just that, risk it all in the name of his love. Detailing anything and everything he would do, all for the honor of calling the woman of his dreams his. It is beautiful and romantic, setting the mood for exactly what the rest of the album feels like. Mars also released a music video to accompany his opening track, which seemingly went viral like the rest of his album overnight.
“Say you want the moon/ Watch me learn to fly/ Ain’t no mountain you could point to/ I wouldn’t climb/ It’s crazy, but it’s true/ There’s nothing I won’t do/ I’d risk it all for you/ It’s crazy, but it’s true/ There’s nothing I won’t do/ I’d risk it all for you.” – Lyrics from “Risk It All.”
“I Just Might”
Mars released this single before the release of this album. The feeling was upbeat, and felt like classic Bruno Mars. The rhythm makes you want to get up and dance, and it is a great song to put on when you want to just have a good time. For a song about wanting to see someone dance, the song achieves just that, showcasing the carefree feelings you have when you are intrigued by a person.

The overall aesthetic of the album feels just like the title, “Romantic,” with the album cover sticking to simple yet contrasting colors of black and white, and the “Risk it All” music video having its own life-long montage of a happily in love couple growing old together. Single fans can’t help but feel a little left out of the beauty of it all. Elements used throughout the video and album as a whole pay a lot of tribute to Latin culture and romantic gestures. There is no doubt that Mars has done it once again, succeeding in stealing Spotify streams and the hearts of people around the world. If there is any question that this album’s sales may pay off his gambling debts, it is most certain that the answer is yes.
