ASB is officially planning the 2025 Homecoming Dance. It is less than a month away, and ASB is very excited to start planning homecoming, but it’s a lot of work and can be stressful. Willa Turton, who is head of the dance committee in ASB, said, “At this point, we’re gonna start ordering things. We kind of have the layout and everything down,” Turton has her own way of planning dances, “I kind of make a list of what I need to do, and then I will revise that and kind of look at past years’ lists and stuff like that,” said Turton. Turton said, “I also make Pinterest boards, kind of like a vision board of what I want the dance to be like and then take ideas from those to make things and craft them.”
Peyton Weir, who is hoping to be head of the dance committee in the future, explained how she loves being in ASB. She said, “Yeah, I really like ASB, it’s fun that we get to be a part of dance and actually make it.” She also explained how they pick themes. Weir said, “So we put a bunch of themes on the board and then everyone gets to vote in the whole class, and then we choose a theme.”
So ASB has already chosen the theme, started ordering things, and figured out the layout. Willa Turton, head of the dance committee, said she is responsible for coming up with the floor plan and design for the entire dance, which requires a lot of time and planning. They aren’t allowed to share what the theme of this year’s Homecoming Dance is at this time, but there are rumors going around the school. Every year, ASB makes a video revealing the theme, and Turton said they hope it will remain a secret until it is revealed in the video. She said they have already made their video and will be sharing it with the school on Tuesday during the tutorial. She did share with me that they filmed the video at the beach in Cayucos, which has to do with the theme.
The dance committee has already started working on parts of the set design for the dance. Willa Turton explained how she has already ordered all of the supplies online and has begun building the set pieces with the help of her parents at home. Other ASB members are working on painting things for the set design at the school as well. There will also be two senior students, Aesa and Anders, who will be DJing at the dance. After talking to members of ASB and the dance committee, it seems they are excited to plan and reveal the dance to the rest of the school.
