Over the All-Star break for the NBA, Kevin Durant had his burner account on X leaked. So far, it is just speculation that the account @gethigher77 is Durant’s account, because an owl GIF he had tweeted on his main account in the past is the header photo for the account people assume to be his.

There is no actual proof yet that the account is Durant’s, but many reasons point to him, which has led him to be investigated by the FBI. It is also not unheard of for Durant to have a burner account, in 2019 Durant admitted to having a burner account to interact with friends. “I wasn’t used to that amount of attention, you know, from playing basketball. I wanted a place where I can talk to my friends without anyone butting in my conversations or mixing my words or taking everything out of context,” said Durant in a Boardrooms interview.

The burner account is now private after the exposure, so all the tweets cannot be seen, but many screenshots have been released. The burner account was filled with messages to ex-teammates of Durant’s, dating all the way back to when he played for the Golden State Warriors.

“I can’t trust Jabari,” Durant’s current teammate on the Houston Rockets, “to make a f*cking shot or get a stop,” tweeted the account. “They’re two dictators. Stalin and Hitler. Mussolini and Kim Jong Un. The Suns are my team when we lose and Book’s team when we win,” said the X account, obviously referring to Phoenix Suns Star Devin Booker and their old head coach Frank Vogel.

While the account also tweeted about Stephen Curry, James Harden, Alperen Sengun, Russell Westbrook, Steve Kerr, and Ben Simmons, who are all ex-teammates or ex-coaches of Durant’s, all in bad light or pitiful tweets like “I swear I miss Ben Simmons. Least that n**** would give me the ball.” It has no solid evidence that it was Durant tweeting these things.

Anybody nowadays can pretend to be someone else on the internet, which is why Durant is under an FBI investigation to see if the account is actually his. If the investigation does prove the account is Durant’s, it could greatly impact the future Hall-of-Famer’s reputation and will most likely make him even more disliked.

Durant was seen on his phone all of All-Star weekend, pre-game and post-game, looking clearly stressed. Hopefully, Durant can clear the air, and this account isn’t his, because it could greatly impact the Rockets’ on-court chemistry due to what he was allegedly saying about Smith Jr and Sengun.

Durant has yet to address the situation, and the Rockets will face off against the 26-29 Charlotte Hornets, who have won nine of their last 10 matchups, on Feb. 19 in a high percentage predicted win.
