Kacey Musgraves is an eight-time Grammy winner and a huge part of the country genre. “Middle Of Nowhere” is her sixth studio album, and it’s filled with a lot of different emotions, such as love, hate, and some comedy mixed along with it.
This album kicks the listeners off with a little song called “Middle Of Nowhere,“ which is the title song. It’s very relaxing and laid back, which this song is about finding comfort by just really being alone, but you like it, and you’ve found yourself, even when you’re in the middle of nowhere. The next song is “Dry Spell,” which is a song about longing for someone, and it’s very personal to Musgraves and relates to many different girls.
The third song on this album is “I Believe In Ghosts,” which has a country/pop mixed sound. This song is about the stages of what happens after a breakup and what normally goes on during that period of time. Such as feeling down for a few weeks to bouncing back and feeling that angst. “Abilene” is all about longing for something more from life and going to greater places. There’s a story in this song, which is about a girl who’s very stressed and overwhelmed, who is trying to leave the small town.
“Coyote” is a duet with Gregory Alan Isakov. Isakov is an singer, songwriter who is known for his songs “Sweet Heat Lightning” and “Big Black Car.” The song is about thinking about a former lover and seeing them in the pretty things in life. Then another song on this album is called “Loneliest Girl,” which is about getting better at being lonely and being by yourself after breaking up with someone. It’s a song that is about loving yourself and being okay with yourself. “Everybody Wants To Be A Cowboy,” is a duet with Billy Strings. Strings is an artist who isn’t very popular, he’s known for his song, “Gild the Lily.” This song is about people who romanticize being a cowboy or cowgirl. “Horses And Divorces” is an iconic duet with Miranda Lambert. Lambert is a very popular female country singer who’s known for her song, “Mama’s Broken Heart” and “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home).” It’s about how Musgraves and Lambert shared horrible experiences with men and how they both have gone through tough divorces.
The next song on this album is called “Rhinestone.” This song is about putting on your smile and dancing the pain and heartbreak away. Then the next song is called “Mexico Honey,” which is all about having that spark back in your life after going through a rough patch and doing things you know you shouldn’t, but you want to. The last song featured on this album is “Hell On Me.” This song is very emotional and personal, talking and explaining her feelings that she’s going through during and after her divorce.
