The weekend before Halloween, Morro Bay was transformed into a colorful and lively place full of costumes, candy and fall spirit. The city closed some of its main streets for the weekend before Halloween, to make way for a Halloween market for everyone. At the Morro Bay Halloween market, families, children and visitors could dress up and trick or treat from booth to booth in sunny and warm weather.
The street was lined with many stalls with scary Halloween decorations. Volunteers and local stores handed out a lot of candy to people who came to the Halloween market, with Halloween costumes. There were everything from stalls selling jewelry and Halloween clothing to stalls selling food, drinks and sweets. And the location of the market was perfect, because you were only a few minutes away from good cafes like Nautical Bean and High Tide. One of the visitors was Hilary Abdel, an exchange student from Italy. She shared that this was her first time experiencing a Halloween market and going trick or treating. She said she found everything so exciting, especially the tradition of going trick or treat. “It was really fun because it was my first time doing trick or treat,” Abdel said, explaining that Halloween is not celebrated in the same way in Italy at all, “I never celebrate Halloween in my home country, so it was so cool.”
For many people, including Abdel herself, the candy was a big highlight in the market. “I got chocolate, like Reese’s, Snickers, Twix, gummy candies and other American candies that I have never tried before.” She also attended with several other exchange students, one girl from Germany, two girls from Italy, and one girl from Norway.

“We had a great time together experiencing an American Halloween market. And we really enjoyed the firefighter stall, where we got a helmet,” she said happily, explaining that she used the helmet she got there for a Halloween costume the day after.
But the Halloween market wasn’t just about candy. People were surprised over how many different stalls there, and how much effort people have put down for this market. People have done the decorations so well, and setted up so many cool stalls so there is something to do for everyone who is visiting. It was also a day where people could meet up, have a good time together, and get true and scary Halloween spirit. With sun, music, and many volunteers who were helping, it was a nice weekend with good energy, successful event in Morro Bay.
